Whether you rent an apartment, townhouse or a home, chances are you’d be happy learning some ways to save money! You may think there isn’t much you can do about this as a renter, but there are a number of steps you can take to reduce monthly costs and put more in your savings.
Turn down the thermostat. Although this is pretty obvious, it does make a huge difference in pricing each month. If possible, consider installing a programmable thermostat that automatically adjusts your home’s temperature settings when you’re away or sleeping. This can end up saving you a significant amount of money each month.
Wash full loads of laundry and dishes. This is one I feel many people don’t think of, but it can help a lot! Rather than washing smaller loads, wait until you have full loads. Consider scraping dishes before washing (rather than rinsing), and using cold water for laundry.
Use an energy efficient room air conditioner. Be sure the window unit fits tightly in the window so that air isn’t getting in. During winter, consider removing the window unit in order to reduce energy losses.
Take advantage of the sun’s warmth. During the summer, close window shades and drapes – during the winter, keep drapes open while it’s light outside so rooms absorb some of the natural warmth.
Change your light bulbs. Replace any older bulbs with LED’s or compact fluorescent bulbs. Additionally, check with your power company because some offer deals for switching your light bulbs.
Invest in power strips. These help because you can turn off electronic appliances when they are not in use, and smart power strips can help by automatically putting devices in standby mode.
These are just some of the ways you can save money each month while renting. Don’t forget to contact an agent at Cochrane & Porter at 781-943-1555 or email@example.com for any of your insurance needs!
