Come Learn About Wellesley’s Changing Wildlife!

Wellesley’s Changing Wildlife

Are you intrigued by wildlife and how it changes over time? If so, you should consider attending “Wellesley’s Changing Wildlife“, hosted by Peter Alden, who has written 15 books including the National Audubon Society Field Guide to New England.

When: Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 7pm
Where: Wellesley Free Library, Wakelin Room
Price: Free, and open to the general public

Alden will discuss how climate, habitat, hunting and invasives are changing the birds and mammals in Wellesley. Mainly as a result of climate change, we are experiencing a shift of species from south moving northwards, causing an interesting change in species that we are seeing on a regular basis! This session will teach you about how these new species are affecting our backyards and wild lands.

According to the Wellesley Conservation Council, “Climate change is upon us and there is a shift of southern species northwards already happening. Invasive alien plants from other continents escaping from horticulture and our gardens are impacting many habitats. Birds from overseas are competing with native species. Learn about these newcomers and how they are affecting our backyards and wild lands.”
