Wellesley Public Schools Among Top 25 Districts in the Nation

Wellesley Public Schools Ranked #2 in Massachusetts

If you are from Massachusetts, it’s likely you’ve heard Wellesley Public Schools are some of the best in the state. However, the town has recently been recognized as one of the best in the country! Niche ranked Wellesley Public Schools as #23 on the list of top school districts in the entire nation. Out of schools in Massachusetts, Wellesley is the second one to make the top 25, after Lexington who was ranked as #9.

According to Wellesley Patch, “Overall, Wellesley received a Niche grade of A+, with A+ ratings in academics, teachers, college readiness and health and safety. You can view Wellesley’s full ratings here.

Impressively enough, Wellesley has a 97 percent graduation rate. The town has an average SAT score of 1320, with the state average being 1044! According to Niche.com, the ranking is “based on statistics, student and parent reviews, and expert insights. Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, student and parent reviews, and more.”

As you may or may not know, Cochrane & Porter is located in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Wellesley is a quintessential New England town and is located about 15 miles outside of Boston. The town has a lot to offer including large, expensive homes, several excellent colleges, and nice restaurants. I decided to make a list of places to visit in Wellesley, whether you are a current resident or if you are visiting!

Lake Waban Path

Located at 106 Central Street at Wellesley College, this path is typically used for hiking and walking, and is composed of beautiful wild flowers and pretty views. Dogs are allowed only when wearing a leash. Beginning at Route 16 will be a 3-mile walk, while starting at Wellesley College will be 2.4 miles. Especially if you enjoy nature, this is a must-see!

Davis Museum

Located at 106 Central Street at Wellesley College, this museum has about 11,000 object ranging from antique to modern day. The museum also holds many special events, including outdoor film nights in the summertime. Learn more!

The Gardens at Elm Bank

Located on 36-acres in the historic Elm Bank Reservation, this site is comprised of wooded areas, gardens, fields and meadows, streams and pools, and more. Another beautiful place definitely worth checking out!

Summer 2016: Outdoor Movies – Wellesley

This Summer – Outdoor Film Night in Wellesley, MA

This summer, Davis Museum at Wellesley College invites you to the museum plaza to watch a film, have popcorn, eat ice cream, and have a drink, if you’re over 21 – for free! While movies begin at dusk, all are encouraged to arrive any time after 7pm to create some art.

Four movies that include museum themes and scenes will be featured:

Night at the Museum – Thursday, June 30th
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – Thursday, July 14th
Raiders of the Lost Ark – Thursday, July 28th
Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – Thursday, August 11th

Admission to each film is open and free to the public. It is recommended all visitors bring blankets and folding chairs so that it’s more comfortable. The films will be projected on the outside of the Davis Museum building. All ages are encouraged to attend!

Community Wellness Day – Linden Square, Wellesley – June 16th

Community Wellness Day – Linden Square, Wellesley: June 16th

On Thursday, June 16th from 11am-1pm, more than a dozen businesses and town services will be delivering information on health and wellness services in Linden Square of Wellesley. The Cottage and California Pizza Kitchen will provide food samples and Bellasante will be giving free mini chair massages!

The Wellesley Fire Department will be bringing a fire truck and the Wellesley Police are bringing a cruiser and Humvee for kids to explore! Bach to Rock will be providing fun music to keep the energy level up and keep the overall vibe a fun one.

Some other participating stores and organizations include:
Unleashed by Petco will explain the benefits of dog training and natural food.
People’s United Bank will provide tips on financial wellness.
Beacon Hill Athletic Club will provide fitness tips and education.

There will also be information and free programs on swimming safety, blood pressure and BMI screenings, programs for senior citizens, and much more!

Guided Trail Walk: Charles River Path – May 7th

Looking for something different to do this weekend? Take a walk with the Wellesley Trails Committee

The Wellesley Trails Committee invites you to take a guided walk along the Charles River Path!

When: Saturday, May 7th, 9am-10am
Where: 15 Walnut Street in Wellesley at the office park parking lot
Cost: FREE
Registration: Not required

Enjoy some of Wellesley’s scenic, open spaces as well as discover trails that will expand your recreational knowledge. The walk begins at Mary Hunnewell Fyffe Footbridge in Newton Lower Falls, goes behind the Waterstone at Wellesley complex, and along the Charles. Next, the group will cross the bridge over the Charles River to Newton and walk the scenic trail that leads to the Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Weston.

The walk will last about an hour, and cover between 1 1/2 miles to 2 miles. It is recommended attendees wear comfortable but sturdy footwear.

Wellesley, Massachusetts Local Event – Wu Man with Shanghai Quartet

Wu Man with Shanghai Quartet: Music from Ancient and New China

Whether you normally enjoy cultural music or not, this may be something that will interest you! On Sunday, April 3, 2016, Wu Man and the Shanghai Quartet will play a suite of traditional Chinese folk songs arranged by second violinist Yi-Wen Jiang, as well as solo pipa works by Wu Man.

Wu Man is a Grammy-Nominated musician who is traveling to 12 different cities across the United States during the 2015-2016 season. Wu Man was born in Hangzhou, China, and studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing – she became the first recipient of a master’s degree in pipa. Wu man was accepted into the conservatory at just age 13, and her audition was covered by national newspaper and she was hailed as a child prodigy, also becoming a role model nationally recognized among young pipa players.

Do You Have Children? Looking For a Fun Activity in Wellesley?

Mini-golf buffs, take heart! You don’t have to wait until the spring to share your favorite fun family sport, you can indulge right in the heart of Wellesley, MA in the dead of winter, no less. And you might win a prize, to boot – local merchants are contributing to the event raffle!

On Saturday, January 30th and Sunday, January 31, the Wellesley Free Library will host A Hole of Fun, their 2nd annual Mini Golf event. The library will turn into an 18-hole mini golf course and will also have a 19th hole with food, a raffle, and other family activities. The 19th hole activities are sponsored by Wellesley Square Merchants Association. In fact, many businesses come together to sponsor the “hole” event, so many thanks to our neighbors for coming together to make this fun event possible.

If you have children and are looking for something fun and different to do with your children, check this out! Wellesley Free Library is located at 530 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA 02482.
